The purpose of this award is to recognize a resident, post-residency fellow, or non-tenured junior faculty member in Geriatric Neurology, Geriatric Psychiatry, or Geriatric Medicine with experience on the services of Barnes-Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center or at associated outpatient facilities including Cedars at the JCA and Barnes-Jewish Extended Care. Nominees should demonstrate achievement in direct patient care; in didactic learning exercises or in rounds, conferences, or national and international meetings; and in patient-oriented or basic research that address aging issues.
The award is to honor the Kopolows and their charitable goal: to further the care of the aging by Barnes-Jewish Hospital and its physicians. It is intended to encourage outstanding achievement among trainees and junior faculty in important disciplines that encompass geriatric disorders. Awards will not necessarily be made yearly, but only when achievement justifies the reward.
Recipients receive a formal announcement of the award, a plaque, and $3,000 award money for aging-related educational endeavors including conference related fees and travel expenses, books, journal subscriptions, field or research related software/hardware, etc.
The award is supported by Barnes-Jewish Hospital Foundation from the Alene and Meyer Kopolow Fund for Geriatric Psychiatry, Geriatric Neurology, and Geriatric Medicine and is presented on behalf of the Harvey A. Friedman Center for Aging at the Annual Friedman Conference.
